Charlotte – Charlotte based web design and branding firm carbonhouse recently won eight website awards in the 2007 W3 Awards, including Best in Show, as well as an award for Best Legal Website in the 2007 WebAwards competition. This marks the second year of success for carbonhouse in both competitions.
Receiving over 2,700 entries, the W3 Awards honors outstanding websites, web marketing, and web video created by some of the best interactive agencies, designers and creators worldwide. After winning three gold awards in the 2006 W3 Awards, carbonhouse felt confident to enter new websites into this year’s competition.
“We were incredibly impressed by the quality and creativity of this year’s entries,” said Linda Day, the director of the International Academy of Visual Arts (IAVA). “W3 winners continue to raise the bar in Web development and design, push the limits of web advertising creative and pioneer the use of web video. We are thrilled to have reviewed such a diverse and respected pool of work.”
The highlight for carbonhouse in the W3 Awards was winning Best In Show for the Shelton Vineyards website (www.sheltonvineyards.com) in the shopping category. A Yadkin Valley vineyard and winery, Shelton Vineyards commissioned carbonhouse to redesign their website and shopping cart at the beginning of 2007.

Womble Carlyle Site Wins WebAward
Winning for the second time in three years, the carbonhouse-designed website for Womble Carlyle Sandridge & Rice (www.wcsr.com) won the WebAward for Best Legal Website. The same award was given to carbonhouse and WCSR in 2005. The judges had this to say about the WCSR website:
“Nicely done. For such a dry topic they have made it very interesting. “
“Interesting site…. I appreciate the effort. The site definitely separates the firm from the competition…. all in all a pretty cool experience.”
Each site in the WebAwards competition is judged on seven different criteria and scored on a scale of 0-70 points. If an entry receives a score of 60 or greater, they receive the Outstanding Website WebAward. WCSR received a score of 65.5.
